Director / Surveyor: Niall M Bennet BSc, MSc, MBACS

North Britannia Marine Surveys has been operating throughout Scotland since 2012 condudting a wide range of ship and cargo surveys. Our surveyor, Niall Bennet, now has more than 20 years of marine surveying experience.  Prior to setting-up his own company in Kinross (east-central Scotland) in July 2012, he worked in the Scottish office of a large UK wide marine cargo surveying company for nine and-a-half years. Before that, Niall lived in the Netherlands where he worked for another of the larger marine surveying companies.

Niall's initial marine surveying training was in Nigeria where he was worked for a P&I Correspondent company and was involved with surveying damage to ships and cargoes in the busy port of Lagos. Moving on from that company, Niall returned to Lagos a number of times after being tasked to conduct negotiations with the Nigerian Port Authorities on behalf of banks in order to successfully obtain the release of arrested vessels.

Niall's experience with surveying cargoes has covered a wide range of commodities including: bulk cargoes (wheat, fertiliser, units of woodpulp etc), general containerised cargoes, oil industry pipes and equipment and refrigerated goods.  He has also conducted loading and discharge surveys of heavy project equipment and pre-loading surveys of machinery and pipes establishing the pre-shipment condition of these goods and ensuring the safe packing of these items where necessary. In addition to cargoes, Niall has also been involved with ship P&I work assessing damage to vessels after collisions / incidents and has also been involved with assisting crewmen who have landed in hospital after incidents on board vessels.

Since July 2012, Niall has worked as an independent marine cargo surveyor and consultant and he is currently one of only a small number of members of the British Association of Cargo Surveyors based in Scotland.
